Musique Non Stop by Kraftwerk. Request from Hofler last week. From 1986.

+Allen’s Mom by Tribe 8. Their 1994 single release, their 3^rd overall. They were among the first queer core bands from SF.

+White Rabbit by The Murmurs. Leisha Hailey’s first band…before she was Alice on The L Word. This is a 1995 single from their debut, self-titled album.

+Samstag Abend by Hanne Haller. German lesbian who’s been prolific over the years. This is a 1988 reissue of her 1980 track…and it means Saturday Night.

Angel Eyes by The Jeff Healey Band. From their first album, See the Light (1988). It was first released as the album’s second single in June 1989. I seem to have no memory of it, though it hit no. 5 in the US.

What’s On Your Mind (Pure Energy) by Information Society. 1988 single that samples Star Trek (original) characters Spock and Bones.

Aussie funk

*Groovin’ by Sue Barker. 1976 cover of this Curtis Mayfield tune, released on her only album, a self-titled affair, from the same year.

*Harmony Blues by Moir Sisters. A trio of sisters, born in Scotland but raised primarily in Australia. They started singing when the youngest, Lesley, was just 13 and toured throughout the mid70s, including supporting the Osmonds. This is from that early era, 1975. The eldest, Margot, died last year from complications due to diabetes.

*You Gotta Realise by Jump Back Jack. Jackie Orszaczky, who was the leader of Marcia Hines’ backing band, formed his own band in the 80s. He was born in Budapest and started his music career there before coming out in the 1970s…how I have no idea! He died of leukemia in 2008. This is a new band for me!

*Blame it on the Boogie by Ric Herbert. 1979 cover of this Jackson’s tune. At the age of 7, Ric was the youngest person in 150 years to be granted a scholarship to sing in the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. He continued there to the age of 13. Today he’s an actor and voice over guy…having done 14,000 voice overs for ads and whatnot.

*This early Broadmindeds by Hiroshi & Claudia. From their 1979 album, Six to Six. According to the blog AussieFunk, the whole album was composed by fairly well known Japanese guitarist Hiroshi Yasukawa and was recorded in both Japan and Sydney with a completely unknown (possibly Aussie) singer referred to only as Claudia. Interestingly, Discogs lists Claudia’s real name as Justin Varis…but Justin, who is white (Claudia is black), was born in 1979 in the US…the same year this track was released, so they can’t be the same person. It’s a mystery.

*Living for You by Chelsea Brown. Another American who relocated to Oz in the 1970s, though clearly she didn’t make it as big as Marcia Hines! She put out one album in 1982, On the Rocks, that featured this tune written by Donny Dee, who also produced the whole project.

*In your Car by The Dugites. Request.

Supersonic by J.J. Fad. Title track from their debut album, 1988. They are an American female rap group from Rialto, California, a city in the Inland Empire east of Los Angeles. The name was an acronym of the original group members’ given names (Juana, Juanita, Fatima, Anna, and Dania), but when the line-up changed the tradition developed that it stood for Just, Jammin’, Fresh and Def.

Tenderness by General Public. From their 1984 album, All the Rage. Johnny Are You Queer? by Josie Cotton. The song was first performed live by the Go-Go’s and was later performed by Josie Cotton, who released the song as a single in 1981 and 1982, and as part of her 1982 album Convertible Music. The song was also featured on the Valley Girl soundtrack. Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider. Track from this Canadian rock band from their 1981 album, As Far as Siam.

Tomorrow People by Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers. From their third album, Conscious Party, released in 1988.
