Aussies who’ve had cancer, for Olivia N-J who was diagnosed again
*Totally Hot by Olivia Newton-John. Title track from her 1978 album, her 10th studio album…except in the US where it was no. 9 because her 1972 album Olivia wasn’t released there till 1995.
*Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi by Kylie. or I Don’t Know Why is a pop song written by British production team Stock, Aitken and Waterman for Kylie’s self-titled debut album Kylie (1988). The song was released as the fourth single in 1988 and was a top hit in the United Kingdom, debuting at number eleven before climbing to number two and remaining there for three weeks. In the United States and Australia the song was also known as “I Still Love You (Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi)”.
*I Touch Myself by The Divinyls. This was the first single from their fifth album, Divinyls from 1990…also their best known hit outside Australia…possibly in the country too. Chrissy died of breast cancer in 2013 after doing some significant awareness and fundraising work…she also had M.S.
*Darktown Strutters Ball by Ted Mulry Gang. 1976 single – from the album Struttin’. Ted died in 2001 of brain cancer, 1 day before his 50th bday.
*Howzat by Sherbet. Guitarist Harvey James died in 2011 after a 6 month battle with lung cancer. This was their biggest hit, from 1976.
*Here comes Another Heartache by Daryl Cotton and the Charts. 1980 performance of this minor hit. He died of liver cancer just 2 months after the initial diagnosis in 2012.
The Dream is Still Alive by Wilson Phillips. Final track on their self-titled debut from 1990.
Still Can’t by The Cranberries. From their 1993 debut album, after 4 EPs, Everybody Else is Doing it, So Why Can’t We? It hit no. 1 in the UK and here, by the end of 1995, it was the 50th top selling album…not sure if that means of all time or just for that year…
Still I’m Sad by Boney M. 1977. Love for Sale, their 2nd.
Lazyitis by Happy Mondays. From the 1988 album, Bummed, out of the Manchester music scene in the UK.
Ordinary Sunday by The Katatonix. Baltimore area band. They released an album and three singles in the 80s. A favourite of director John Waters.
Pillar to Post by Aztec Camera. From their 1983 debut album, High Land Hard Rain.
Strangers in the Night by Peter Baumann. Baumann was of course the brains behind Tangerine Dream in the 1970s. This solo work is the title track from his 1983 album.
