Many religious organisations have been very vocal in their opinions on people who are same sex attracted. These voices have been heard loud and clear, particularly during the ongoing marriage equality debate and on the onset of the possible plebiscite!
But we also know that religious organisations are evolving and we can see a growing acceptance towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community with youth groups popping up all over Australia that are providing a safe space for same sex attracted and gender diverse young people who are also practicing a religious faith.
During this episode of Unicorn Youth we explore what it is like to grow up in a religious family and come out as same sex attracted and/or gender diverse.
We hear from three individuals who discuss what this journey has been like for them. Are they still religious? How did their families respond to their coming out? And where are they currently sitting on the debate as to whether you can be both religious and queer.
Big thanks to Victoria (23), Alexand (20) and Taqi (21) for sharing their important stories!
