Tonight, we were joined by animal lover and vegan, Emily, and derby obsessed Alinta to talk about body shaming, eating disorders and self image.
Body shaming is when someone makes critical, potentially humiliating comments about a persons body size or weight, like calling someone “Too fat” or “Too skinny”, or making comments about how someone has “lost so much weight!” or mentioning that a certain outfit isn’t flattering.
Fat shaming, skinny shaming, fit shaming, it seems that if you have a body of any shape or form, someone can shame you for it. And often it can lead to devastating outcomes like depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
We chat about the different kinds of body shaming, how it has affected us and how we’ve dealt with it.
If you are struggling with body image or an eating disorder, talk to your doctor.
