Thorne Harbour President Chad Hughes & GiveOUT Day 2020

Thorne Harbour Health (VAC)

Thorne Harbour President Chad HughesStarted in 1983 as the first HIV/AIDS community organisation in Australia, Thorne Harbour Health is now one of the largest LGBTI health organisations in Australia. While the organisation is drawing closer to four decades in its history, the shift in the organisation has been significant in recent years. Chad Hughes is the President of Thorne Harbour Health and he’s been at the helm during some of these massive changes.

As he nears his 6-year term limit on the Board, Chad sits down with Cal Hawk to discuss what’s it’s been like in that leadership role. Chad discusses the challenges in governance, rebranding, and addressing the needs of lesbian, bisexual, and queer women as well as the importance of community elders like the late Jim Hyde and Tony Maynard.

And later on in the show, Neil Pharaoh joins the show as the Director of GiveOUT Day in Australia. On Friday 16 October, the online initiative is helping nearly seventy LGBTIQ organisations, groups, and projects get much needed funds in a year that has hit us all pretty hard.
