International Lesbian Day

Rachel and Jacinta are joined by President of Dykes on Bikes Melbourne, TJ White, and PhD researcher, Hao Zheng, to chat about our experiences as lesbians and queer women ahead of this International Lesbian Day on 8 October. We find out about what it was like for dykes back in the 70s and 80s in Melbourne, including femme flagging practices, demonstrations and dances. We also hear about how queer and lesbian communities are built online and through mobilities globally.

Hao Zheng is a PhD candidate at Deakin University. Hao’s research interests are in the areas of gender and sexuality, intersectionality, transnational mobilities, digital media cultures and lesbianism. Her doctoral research examines Chinese queer female students’ queer and adult identity making in Australia through the lens of time and temporality.

TJ White is a lesbian elder, and President of Dykes on Bikes Melbourne.
