Midsumma Carnival 2024

Community, Midsumma, Thorne Harbour Health (VAC)

Midsumma Carnival 2024

Melbourne’s pride festival, Midsumma, is just around the corner!

Jack and Michael chat with Tex about the Gay, Bisexual, Queer + Community Periodic Survey.

Most folk complete the survey at the flagship Carnival event, and the results help government departments and health organisations respond to our community’s evolving needs.

We discuss the No Pride in Racism event, an exploration of the impacts of racism in our LGBTIQ+ communities of colour, culture, and faith.

Rachel joins us to talk about Wise Words, featuring a line-up of some of Australia’s most prominent and talented intergenerational LGBTIQ+ writers, performers and activists talking about their experiences of what it is to be a queer woman.

We’re also joined by John Hall to discuss the AIDS Memorial Garden, a treasured resource and place of quiet reflection on the grounds of the old Fairfield Hospital in light of the upcoming AIDS Memorial Garden Walking Tour.

Check out our other JOY Podcasts for more on LGBTIQ+ health & wellbeing.

If there’s something you’d like us to explore on the show, send through ideas or questions at wellwellwell@joy.org.au
