Champion of the Homeless and Elderly – Bryan Lipmann

Health, Society & Culture

BryanBryan Lipmann founded an organisation, Wintringham, that builds homes for the elderly homeless to live in. They have homes all around Victoria (and manage two sites in the city, Ebsworth House in Little Collins St and in Guildford Lane) and provide unique accommodation to over 1,000 people each night, including housing for elderly carers and their disabled children.5137758-3x4-340x453

A new book by Elaine Farrelly has been written about Bryan and Wintringham and his journey from slaughterhouse to night shelter, to providing homes for the elderly. Melbourne organisation Wintringham is the first Australian organisation to be awarded the prestigious UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award (2011), and yet it remains relatively unknown outside the housing and aged care sectors. Australian author Elaine Farrelly’s new book The Wintringham Story, aims to change this.
