The Clowns Have A New Boss – Rob Tannion

Circus Oz castThe previous Artistic Director of Circus Oz had been in the job 16 years.  Taking over from such a legacy has to be a daunting task but it’s one that Rob Tannion is loving.  Having spent half of his life living and working in Europe, the Brisbane-born Tannion is now in charge of one of Australia’s national treasures – Circus Oz.

Circus Oz is a rock ‘n’ roll, animal-free circus that has influenced the development of circus arts around the world since its foundation in 1978. Credited with revitalising a traditional art form in a uniquely Australian way, Circus Oz undertook its first and critically praised international tour in 1980 and has continued touring to over 100 cities and regions in 27 countries – playing to over 4 million people.

Their latest production – TWENTYSIXTEEN – is classic Circus Oz: absurd Australian larrikins pushing the boundaries of possibility and defying the laws of physics. It’s two hours of high-voltage acrobatics and explosive aerial antics all accompanied by the sensational Circus Oz band – a must see!
