Antarctica: Not too many gays

Asia/Pacific

“I’ve had more support from my colleagues here than my friends at home,” says Gerard Baker, from the UK Antarctica base team. On the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, there is no formal LGBTI organisation and scant opportunity for relationships.

“There’s not too many gays in the Antarctica,” says Mr Baker, but he is not too concerned: “Being gay isn’t at the front of my agenda.”

He’s one of the 4,000 scientists living on the continent and we’re bringing him live to your radio.
