Australia: International reputation at risk over unresolved human rights violations

Asia/Pacific

The World Wide Wave team looks at Australia through the lens of the United Nations, considering how the international community views Australia’s human rights record. And it’s not all good news.

Who was the first person to petition any United Nations human rights body about Australia? How many cases has the United Nations found Australia to have violated human rights? More importantly, how many of these violations are still outstanding? And what link does Kylie Minogue have to Remedy Australia?

To understand the issues and implications of Australia’s international reputation on human rights, we spoke with Olivia Ball from Remedy Australia – a new organisation monitoring the Australian government’s human rights record.
