Puerto Rico: Shining the Spotlight on the Trans* Community

puerto_ricoWinner of over a dozen international festival awards, Mala Mala has been a popular hit with audiences worldwide who have embraced its look at the lives of nine trans-identifying people in ‎Puerto Rico.

Covering a wide spectrum of age and experience in its subjects, this fascinating documentary explores the highs and lows of identifying as trans* in a country where a macho, Latino culture holds sway.

Mala Mala is featured at the 2016 Melbourne Queer Film Festival. For an insight into the experience of making the film, and life for trans* people in this tiny USA commonwealth, we spoke to co-directors Dan Sickles & Antonio Santini.
