Australia: being gay in the military on Anzac day

It’s ANZAC Day.  A day of deep respect and a day of solemn remembrance.  However it is a remembrance that scarcely reflects LGBTI military members across the years and through the many wars as our Defense Force wrestles with the topic diversity.

  • What is it like to hide your sexuality and risk covert surveillance on your life simply because you are gay?
  • What difference does it make to have the Army head speak up for diversity?
  • How far along is our Defense Force on the path to LGBTI inclusion?

Marching with pride on ANZAC Day, we were joined in the studio by Stuart Martin, Board Member and Melbourne Coordinator of DEFGLIS – the Defense LGBTI Information Service.

Originally broadcast on April 25th, 2017.
