USA: Miami OUTGAMES Out Of Money

Just a few weeks ago, thousands of LGBTI athletes and sportspeople converged on Miami Florida for an international sports and culture fest – the 4th World OutGames. But shockingly on arrival in Miami, participants were told that that the Games were bankrupt and the event would not go ahead as planned.

  • How did the participants respond to the shock news?
  • What does this response say about the resilience of both the local Miami community and the LGBT community?
  • What is stopping LGBT sporting events from being staged successfully?

Sharing his experience at the Miami World OutGames with us is Malcolm Campbell – Presenter of JOY’s Sports Bag show and former President of Team Melbourne.

Music: We’ve also included a relevant JOY 94.9 music track for you – Together We Are One by Delta Goodrem – which was performed at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

World Wide Wave aims to promote awareness of international LGBT issues. Our program provides in-depth analysis and interviews. We focus on the challenges facing the global LGBT community as well as some of our successes.

We take pride in interviewing a wide range of international LGBT people and supporters including politicians, activists, academics, parents, authors, students, professionals and more.
