We often think if LGBTI people in leadership positions as a modern phenomenon.  But gays have been occupying powerful positions around the world for centuries – some openly, others in secret.  Tonight we look into what makes a ‘Power gay’.

  • How has sexuality been used as a weapon – even to help bring down a Pope?
  • Will Australia ever see an openly LGBTI head of state?
Guiding us through the ups and downs of gay power across the centuries is Dr Matthew Laing, Lecturer & Research Fellow in Politics at Monash University.  He is presenting the talk Pride Power – Queer Leadership from the ancient world to today as part of Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival.
