NEPAL: WHEN HIV, LOVE AND IMMIGRATION COLLIDE

Asia/Pacific, News & Politics

Nepal FlagUnder the monarchy in Nepal, homosexuality was illegal.  But the end of the monarchy in 2007 saw a series of law changes – in the constitution, anti-discrimination laws and recognition of the third gender – that catapulted Nepal to having some of the most progressive LGBTI laws in Asia.

  • To what degree have these law changes filtered through into everyday life in Nepal?
  • What is the immigration process for bringing your LGBTI partner and soul mate to join you here in Australia?
  • And how do you maintain focus – and sanity – over a long and challenging migration process?

Sharing his personal fight for love, we were joined in the studio by Baburam – a Nepalese national now living in Melbourne and fighting for the right for his partner to join him.
