Afghanistan: Flee – The Story of a Child Refugee

FleeAfghanistan does not have a very good history when it comes to LGBTIQ rights. Same-sex sexual activity can bring prison and even death sentences for people having been found guilty. And although no such sentences have been applied after the end of the Taliban ruling of the country in early 2000s, the return of the Taliban leaves LGBTIQ people with little hope for their future in Afghanistan.

Previously under Taliban rule, many LGBTIQ people fled the country, very often using people smugglers to reach a safe place and seek asylum. One of these stories is now coming to cinemas.

Jonas Poher Rasmussen is a director and writer. His latest documentary, Flee, an animated documentary, recounts the story of Amin, a child refugee from Afghanistan to Denmark. Flee is the story of a young man grappling with his traumatic past in order to find his true self and the meaning of home.
