Lesotho: Religious allies and community protests

Africa and the Middle East

We travel to a landlocked country in southern Africa with the third highest HIV rates in the world.  Being gay is illegal under their sodomy laws but lesbianism does not rate a mention.

We speak to the countries first legal LGBTI support group – the Matrix Support Group.

The Government seems to be showing signs of wanting to support the group, particularly for HIV and health education programs, however they are being thwarted by their own sodomy laws and Christian.

For the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), the LGBTI community was joined in a march by their parents who came onto the streets in a visible sign of support.
