Timor-Leste: Keeping HIV in check

Asia/Pacific

World Wide Wave takes the very short trip from home to one of our closest neighbours to uncover gay life in Timor-Leste otherwise known as East Timor.

After years under Indonesian rule, where do the rights of gays and lesbians fit in this young democracy? How has this country managed to keep HIV largely in check while others in the region have not? What is the local LGBTI community doing to advocate for change?

Plus we solve one of life’s little mysteries – why do lesbians ride motorbikes?!!

To understand gay life in Timor-Leste, we spoke with Brigal Ferreira from Fundasaun Timor Hari’i or FTH – the “Build Timor” Foundation.

Find out more on W3JOY’s Timor-Leste homepage.
