ILGA World Conference: Setting the Scene for 2017

Broadcast – 03 January 2017

Happy New Year to all…or is it? Just before Christmas, the leaders of LGBTI rights organisations around the world converged on Bangkok for the ILGA World Conference.

700 delegates representing over 100 countries discussed the way forward in LGBTI rights.

  • What are supportive religious leaders saying to influence their flocks towards inclusiveness?
  • How did some of the Pacific Island nations inspire those at the conference?
  • And what did the United Nation’s new Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) have to say to the world’s LGBTI leaders?

Giving us an insight into the world’s biggest LGBTI rights conference, we speak with Andre Du Plessis, UN Programme and Advocacy Manager for ILGA – The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association.

We take the opportunity to ask Andre what he sees are the big issues ahead in 2017 for LGBTI rights around the world… and his answer might surprise you.
