Thailand: HIV, PrEP and Mardi Gras

Broadcast – 28 February 2017

It’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras time, a great time to talk about sex! With the queer eyes of the Asia-Pacific region focussed on Australia, we look at how much traction PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis) is gaining across the region.

  • Who are the leaders and the laggards in Asia when it comes to PrEP?
  • What are the obstacles to a larger uptake of this HIV prevention tool?
  • And for an overseas visitor, what is the feeling of coming to Sydney for your first Mardi Gras?

To take a look at the fight against HIV in Asia and the role that Mardi Gras plays, we speak with Midnight Poonkasetwattana from the Asia-Pacific coalition for men who have sex with men (APCOM), based in Bangkok.

For more information on PrEP visit the VAC website.
