SERBIA: ON A PATHWAY TO LGBT CHANGE

Europe, News & Politics

In 2010, this country’s Pride parade came under attack from anti-gay protestors leaving more than 100 injured.  Last year, just 7 years later, the country’s open lesbian Prime Minister joined an incident free Pride march.  Times seem to be changing very quickly in Serbia.

  • What is it like coming from Serbia to find your way and a new life in Australia?
  • How do Serbian families react when a family member ‘comes out’?
  • Does having an openly lesbian Prime Minister impact public acceptance of LGBTI people?

Giving us an insight into the exciting changes of a country at the crossroads of Europe, we were joined by Vera Ignjatovic, a Serbian born scientist who calls Australia home.
