BRUNEI – LIFE OF A YOUNG GAY MUSLIM

Asia/Pacific, News & Politics

The Sultanate of Brunei is one of the most conservative nations in South-East Asia that has in recent years introduced some harsh anti-LGBT laws based on strict interpretations of Sharia law. So how do members of the LGBT community survive in this society and how do they reconcile their religious and sexual identities. In this episode, we speak to Khairul, a young gay Muslim, about his experiences. We also speak with Matthew Woolfe, an Australian involved in the Brunei Project, a human rights advocacy organisation.
