SINGAPORE (Part 2) – The fight for LGBTI rights continues

Asia/Pacific, News & Politics

Singapore is a complex melting pot of modernity and tradition.  British colonisation brought criminalisation for gay men – but not for lesbians. Trans people are hidden and often mistreated.  This is the second part of our look inside Singapore’s LGBTI community.

  • What are the implications if a person ‘comes out’ to their family in modern-day Singapore?
  • How much active opposition is there to LGBTI rights?
  • What inspires a gay man to get involved in community support and advocacy in a country where being gay is illegal?

Sharing both his professional and personal experiences on being gay in Singapore,we were joined by Yangfa Leow, the Executive Director of Oogachaga Counselling Service in Singapore (https://oogachaga.com/), who dropped into the JOY studios to speak with us on a recent visit.
