World: Mapping a Path to Trans Rights

Zhan ChiamSince 2016, ILGA – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association – has published the Trans Legal Mapping Report. The report gives a very detailed account of the impact of laws and policies on trans persons in 143 UN member States. The third edition of the report has recently been released.

Zhan Chiam, one of the co-authors of the report, spoke with us to unravel what is the difference between countries that progress on Trans rights and those that don’t. Zhan was the Coordinator of ILGA World’s Gender Identity and Expression Program, supporting and strengthening trans movements through ILGA’s membership base. Zhan is also on advisory committees for the Asia Pacific Transgender Network and Transgender Europe’s TvT project.
