Kiribati: Engaging the Wider Community with BIMBA Rhythm

The tiny Pacific Island country of Kiribati is virtually unknown to many Australians. But the Pacific community in general is featuring more in Australia’s foreign policy of late. Music is a part of the culture and daily life across many pacific countries including Kiribati. And the local LGBT group is using it to engage the wider population.

To start to change hearts and minds in the Island country, the local LGBT community knew they needed to get creative. So they made their own song to explain the challenges of the LGBT community. Tebeio Tamton is the Founder of BIMBA Kiribati, the group who put together the song “BIMBA Rhythm”.
