Baby
Hi Listeners
This week we are going to focus on one word – ‘Baby’.
Doing our research we discovered that there were many songs using the word ‘Baby’ in the fifties and sixties and even in the seventies. You don’t find the word very much in pop music today.
In the fifties ‘Baby’ was ‘a term of endearment’ as in ‘Baby I’ve got some bread, let’s paint the town’. Apart from the mixed metaphor can you understand the sentence? In the sixties the meaning of ‘Baby’ had changed slightly. It was now more a ‘form of address used in informal greetings’ as in “Hey, baby what’ya doin’?’. It had become more of a slang term.
As well, we are featuring our Album of the Week, the great Etta James singing ‘At Last’.
Hope you enjoy.
