Hi Listeners,

This Sunday, Melbourne will be the focus of all countries as the 20th International AIDS conference begins. As our small contribution to the conference we are going to feature some songs from the context of the eighties when AIDS gripped gay communities all over the world. The main voices for us then were Bronski Beat and the C0mmunards – both featuring that pint-sized powerhouse performer with the remarkable voice, Jimmy Somerville.

The songs dealt with gay issues such as coming out (Small Town Boy) to homophobic attitudes (Tell Me Why) and friends dying of the disease (For A Friend) to relationships between gay men (C Minor). On a lighter note we will also feature the Communards big, driving hit ‘Never Can Say Good Bye’.

To balance the program we will also be featuring the songs of Olivia Newton- John, our own international star. Songs from ‘Grease’ (You’re The One That I Want’ and ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’) as well as her early hits – ‘Xanadu’, If Not For You’ and ‘Banks Of The Ohio’ will be featured.

Hope you enjoy this special program
