Day and Night

Music

Hi Listeners,

Time and Weather are two motifs that exist plentifully in popular music. Time itself, Days and Nights, Months and Years can be found throughout all eras of pop music. Day and Night are often contrasted – Night time is more a dark time whereas day time is associated with brightness and sunshine. But, not always. Days can be associated with depression and loneliness such as in the Bee Gees song ‘Lonely Days’ or the Carpenters ‘Rainy Days And Mondays’. Sometimes days are specially remembered such as performed by Jane Morgan in the song’The Day the Rains Came Down’ and the Easybeats’ ‘Friday On My Mind’.

Nights can also be specific as in “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight’ (England Dan and John Coley) or the Fifth Dimension song ‘Last Night I Didn’t Get To Sleep’. Some artists use day and night as metaphors for continuous twenty four/seven feelings as in ‘Night And Day’ (Frank Sinatra) and ‘All Day And All Of The Night’ (Kinks) and of course, night is mostly associated with sexual liaisons (although I’ll never know why!) as in ‘Sharing The Night Together’ (Dr Hook).

So whether you are a night person or a day person we hope you will enjoy this week’s program.
