Singers and Songwriters

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week we have chosen Singers and Songwriters as our theme. A singer songwriter is a person who:

‘records and performs in the traditional singer-songwriter approach. These performers write their own material, accompany themselves on guitar or keyboards, usually perform solo or with limited and understated accompaniment, and are known as much for their song writing skills as for their performance abilities’. But, there were also singers who didn’t write their material such as Elvis and songwriters who didn’t sing such as Burt Bacharach and Hal David (not much anyway).

For Sunday’s program we are going to feature singer-songwriters and the songs they wrote which were performed (successfully) by someone else. Bob Dylan is probably the pre-eminent singer song writer of the sixties so we have chosen a Dylan sung track ‘Lay Lady Lay’ and a famous song written by Dylan and performed by Peter Paul and Mary (‘Blowin’ In The Wind’). Paul Anka is also a prolific singer song writer starting at a very early age. To show off his singing talents we’re featuring ‘(All Of A Sudden) My Heart Sings), one of his power ballads and a song he wrote for Buddy Holly (also a prolific song writer), (‘It Doesn’t Matter Any More’).

Neil Sedaka, singer song writer, is on the program singing ‘Should have Never Let you Go’ and Captain and Tennille are singing the big hit Sedaka wrote ‘Love Will Keep us Together’. Australia is represented by singer song writer Brian Cadd who sings with Axiom ‘My Baby’s Gone’ and the hit he wrote for Johnny Farnham ‘Don’t You Know It’s Magic?).

So sit back and enjoy the talents of singer song writers.
