Apparel

Music

Hi Listeners

Apparel or clothing has long been an interest of songwriters and singers and often reflects the times when the song was performed. This week we are going to play songs with apparel as their main focus.

From the fifties and sixties there is a distinctive reference to clothes of the era with Frankie Avalon’s ‘Bobby Socks To Stockings’ and the Royal Teens’ preoccupation with ‘Short Shorts’ (totally unremarkable today). Dress colour was often specific such as in the Hollies classic ‘Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress’, Australia’s Helen Reddy with ‘Ruby Red Dress’ and Mitch Ryder’s ‘Devil In A Blue Dress’.

We are happy to pay a tribute to the late Joe Cocker and feature his cheeky ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ and there a couple of songs about shoes – ‘Boogie Shoes’ by KC And The Sunshine Band and the catchy ‘Hole In My Shoe’ from Traffic. Coats feature as well with Marion Marlowe’s slightly disturbing and brooding fifties song ‘The Man In The Raincoat’ and Marty Robbins ever popular song ‘A White Sport Coat’. Humour is there too with Andy Stewart’s iconic Scottish romp ‘Donald Where’s Your Troosers?’

So whatever your attire slip into JOY 94.9 and enjoy these great songs.
