January Releases

Music

Hi Listeners

Well here we are at the start of a New Year. The month of January was also a successful start for many singers over the years. If you had a hit in January it usually set you up for a prosperous year. So this week we are going to play some songs released in January which propelled the careers of many of the artists mentioned. Looking at the Playlist you can see how several artists were being launched with new songs such as the Beatles ‘Ask Me Why’ and Lloyd Price’s ‘Personality’ and Petula Clark’s biggest hit ‘Downtown’.

It was also a good month for Aussie singers Richard Clapton (‘Girls On the Avenue’) and Spectrum (‘I’ll Be Gone’). It is very appropriate that the song which is credited for setting off the whole rock n roll revolution (Bill Haley’s ‘Rock Around The Clock’) was released in January 1955. Finally, Australia’s No 1 singer of the time, Normie Rowe released ‘Penelope’ in January 1968, the year he was drafted into the Australian Army to fight in Vietnam.

So here is a chance for you to ask ‘Where was I?’ as we play songs from Januaries in the past.
