Suggestive Songs

Music

Hi Listeners

This week we are indulging in a bit of titillation and naughtiness. Many songwriters and singers, either unconsciously or deliberately, infuse ‘double meanings’ into song lyrics to give songs that extra ‘intrigue’ factor. Sometimes the meaning is blatant and sometimes it is more subtle. In Jim Stafford’s novelty song ‘My Girl Bill’ it all depends on the placement of a comma! The song deliberately sets up one interpretation only to reverse it at the punch line. Sexual innuendo is a common occurrence in many songs such as Merrilee Rush’s ‘Angel Of The Morning’ and Rod Stewart’s unambiguous ‘Tonight’s The Night’.

Perhaps the most suggestive pop song ever to be released is Donna Summer’s ‘Love To Love You’ replete with orgasmic sounds and heavy breathing. In other songs the meaning is not so obvious such as in the Rolling Stone’s ‘Lady Jane’ whose meaning is only clear if one has read ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover.’ Simulating a drug trip in the Beatles psychedelic ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ got them into some trouble. Finally, there is the quasi-paedophilic ‘Young Girl’ and a song that probably wasn’t meant to be about stalking, Little Peggy March’s ‘I Will Follow Him.’

So if you want to be titillated and entertained tune in to us at 5pm on Sunday
