Youngest And Oldest

Music

Hi Listeners,

When Cher scored a hit with ‘I Believe’ in 1999 she became the oldest female singer at 52 to have a top ten hit record. At the other end of the scale Shirley Temple, child star of the thirties, scored with her signature song ‘On The Good Ship Lollipop’ at six years of age.

Dutch boy singer, Heintje Simons scored a world wide hit with ‘I’m Your Little Boy’ in 1971 when he was sixteen years old and three years earlier thirteen year old schoolboy Laurie London in England recorded a huge hit in 1958 with ‘He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands’. In 1969, aged 49, Peggy Lee released her second million seller (eleven years after ‘Fever’) ‘Is That All There Is’.

In the middle of The British invasion of 1964 Dean Martin, at 47, revived his career with ‘Everybody Loves Somebody.’ Popular old actor Walter Brennan also scored a top ten hit in 1962 with ‘Old Rivers’ when he was 68. At this age he emulated Louis Armstrong’s success of scoring a huge hit with ‘What A Wonderful World’ while in his late sixties.

Other child singers to gain world wide success were Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond and Little Stevie Wonder. In Australia too we had child singers such as Little Pattie and Brian Davies.

So sit back and enjoy songs from the youngest and the oldest this week.
