Rock and Roll

Music

Hi Listeners,

It’s a special program this week to celebrate Mossy’s return from overseas and my birthday! So this week we have amassed all the big names of rock and roll overseas and here, in Australia. Starting with the aknowledged signature song of the rock era Bill Haley’s ‘Rock Around The Clock’ we will then present a smorgasbord of all the top rock singers: Elvis (Jailhouse Rock), Buddy Holly (Oh Boy), Chuck Berry (Sweet Little Sixteen), Little Richard (Lucille) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Great Balls Of Fire).

Women singers were also represented in the rock era. One of the most popular rock chicks was Brenda Lee (That’s All You Gotta Do) and female singers like Connie Francis showed they could rock it with best (Stupid Cupid) as did Wanda Jackson, who encouraged by Elvis to record a rock song, blazed onto the music scene with ‘Let’s Have A Party.’ In Australia too our own rock legend Johnny O’Keefe trailblazed rock and roll in this country (Shout). We also had the nearest thing to a rock chick with Dinah Lee (Reet Petite) – although she was from New Zealand – and other rock singers such as Johnny Chester (Shakin’ All Over).

So this week join us as we remember the great rock singers and their unforgettable classic songs.
