Verbs

Music

Hi Listeners

Two weeks ago we had numeracy, this week we have literacy. I heard that someone had done some useless research and concluded that there were more songs beginning with verbs in the seventies than in any other decade. So it was easy to come up with a theme: songs beginning with verbs.

So we will get off to a bright start with the Honeycombs ‘Have I The Right?’ and follow it by the brooding classic ‘Cry Me A River’ from Julie London. Other verbs are get (Get Off My Cloud), walk (Walk Don’t Run), step (Step Inside Love) act (act Naturally) and clap (Clap Your Hands). Australian singers are here too: the Masters Apprentices classic ‘Turn Up Your Radio’, Ted Mulry’s ‘Falling In Love Again’ and finally, Dragon’s ‘Are You Old Enough?’. By strict literary definitions ‘are’ is classed as a no-action verb along with ‘is’, ‘am’ ‘was’, ‘were’ and a few others.

So this week enjoy the music and see how many songs you can think of beginning with verbs.
