Life Cycle

Music

Hi Listeners

This week we are presenting a musical expression of the various stages of our lives. From babyhood to childhood, teenage years to young adult, mature age to old age we will be playing songs that reflect each of these stages of life. Starting off with two ‘baby’ songs – Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ and Laurie London’s take on the old nursery rhyme ‘The Cradle Rock’. Moving into childhood we have Australian Barry Crocker’s version of the Robin Luke classic ‘Susie Darlin’ and Gilbert O’Sullivan’s catchy ‘Clair’.

There are myriads of songs about the teenage years but we have selected Dr Hook’s ‘Only Sixteen’ and the Australian group Ol 55’s tongue in cheek rendition of teenage boy behaviour with ‘On The Prowl’. The Dixie Cup’s ‘Going To The Chapel’ and Astrud Gilberto’s ‘Girl From Ipanema’ represent the young adult phase of life.

For the mature age stage there is Helen Reddy’s sisterhood anthem “I Am Woman’ and a rare offering from the wonderful Joni Mitchell ‘Chinese Cafe’. Finally, for the last stage of the life cycle there is the Beatle’s ‘When I’m 64’ which many of us would not consider to be old! Jud Strunk’s poignant song ‘Daisy A Day’ completes the program.
