Thoroughfares

Music

Hi Listeners

This week we are going to take you on a journey. In fact, many journeys, as you wander with us down alleys, streets, roads and lanes. Yes, it’s songs all about thoroughfares this week. Starting off brightly with the Mamas And Papas semi-autobiographical song ‘Creeque Alley’ and followed by one of the big hits from that classic show ‘My Fair Lady’, Vic Damone’s ‘On The Street Where You Live.’ Great artists Aretha Franklin and Elton John are here too with ‘Freeway Of Love’ and ‘Yellow Brick Road.’

A couple of gems are Sammi Smith’s aching regret in ‘Saunders Ferry Lane’ and a recently discovered Australian track by the wonderful Doug Ashdown (Rowe Street). Lighter songs are the Nashville Teens with ‘Tobacco Road’, Dave Dudley’s roadie song “Six Days On The Road’ and Martha And The Vandelles ‘Dancing In The Streets’. The program will end with a Duane Eddy classic ‘Forty Miles Of Bad Road.’
