Yesterday Once More

29 Sep 2015

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Music

Hi Listeners

Simple theme this week: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow or Past, Present and Future. Easy to get songs about yesterday, mildly difficult to get songs about tomorrow and quite difficult to find songs about today. Yesterday songs include a Nat King Cole classic ‘That Sunday That Summer’, the bright ‘Yesterday Man’ by Chris Andrews, John Paul Young’s first hit ‘Yesterday’s Hero’ and the Beatles classic ‘Yesterday’ featuring Paul McCartney. The program will begin with Herman’s Hermit’s catchy ‘No Milk Today’ and Lou Reed’s poignant ‘Perfect Day’ and an unearthed treasure by Aussie singer Frankie Davidson (If J’OK Was Alive Today). Ruby And The Romantics hit ‘Our Day Will Come’ is hypothetically about an anticipated today.

Tomorrow songs are numerous. Sandy Shaw had a minor hit with ‘Tomorrow’ as did the Monkees with ‘Here Comes Tomorrow’. But my favourite girlie group, The Shirelles, scored a huge hit with the Carole King classic ‘Will You Love Me Tomorrow?’. ‘And When I Die’ by great seventies group Blood Sweat And Tears refers to a imminent or far off tomorrow. Of course the conundrum is: Tomorrow never comes because when it arrives it is always today.
