Yesterday Once More

13 Oct 2015

Australiana 4

Music

Hi Listeners

This week we are highlighting our own Australian music – it will be a celebration of the amazing talent that our country has produced over the years. The program will also present some little known Australian songs and some big names such as Sherbet (Howzat), Billy Thorpe (I Told The Brook) and The Loved Ones (The Loved One). In a first we will play the three parts of Stevie Wright’s gigantic hit ‘Evie’. In the past, radio stations only played Evie Part 1. But, on Yesterday Once More we ‘dare to be different’ and you will hear the full range of Stevie Wright’s amazing talent over all three parts. Other songs of interest are the indie group The Reels version of ‘This Guy’s In Love With You’ and a Jo Jo Zep seldom heard classic ‘Losing Game’.

Female Australian singers of the sixties were under represented on the charts and often did not get the same opportunities as the men. One of our most talented exports was Lana Cantrell (Can’t Take My Eyes Off You) and at home, singers like Little Pattie (Dance Puppet Dance) and Marcie Jones (Quiet) held their own against the guys.
