Yesterday Once More

29 Mar 2016

Drinks All Round

Music

Hi Listeners,

To celebrate Mossy’s return from overseas we’re presenting an appropriate theme this week: drinks all round. Many beverages have been celebrated through pop songs. Probably the most popular drink is wine. This week we have three songs about wine: Eric Burdon’s fantasy dreamscape ‘Spill The Wine’, Paul Ankas’s Spanish inspired ‘A Steel Guitar And A Glass Of Wine’ and Dean Martin’s confessional about his own alcohol addiction in ‘Lil Ole Wine Drinker Me’.

Other alcoholic beverages include “Margaritaville’ by Jimmy Buffet, ‘Brandy’ from Looking Glass, ‘A Glass Of Champagne’ from Sailor and that perennial instrumental ‘Tequila’ from the Ralph Marterie Orchestra. Australia’s contribution is the iconic Slim Dusty song ‘Pub With No Beer’.

Soft beverages also figure prominently this week. Peter Sarstedt wrote about ‘Frozen Orange Juice’ while Herman’s Hermits scored a big hit with ‘No Milk Today’. Going right back before the rock n roll era we have resurrected Doris Day’s theme song from the film ‘Tea For Two’ and a simple, romantic tale sung by Guy Mitchell called ‘Sippin’ Soda’.
