Yesterday Once More

12 Jul 2016

Fourth Birthday

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week is a very special week for ‘Yesterday Once More’. It’s our FOURTH birthday! Yes, we can’t believe it’s that long since those first tentative and rather nervous early programs went to air on JOY 94.9. We have enjoyed every minute of it. We would like to thank JOY management for having faith in the program for so long and to those wonderful listeners for sticking with us and providing so much encouragement. We would also like to thank fellow presenters for their kind words and to ancillary staff such as the tireless technicians who support us and to our lovely receptionist, Corey.

For our fourth birthday we decided on the theme of ‘four’. Not songs with ‘four’in the title, but groups using ‘four’ in their names. The fifties and sixties were sprinkled with groups of four members. From the barber shop type sounds from groups like the Four Aces (Written On The Wind and Love Is A Many Splendored Thing) and the Four Lads (Moments To Remember and The Bus Stop Song) to the girlie groups of the sixties.

Later, there was the Motown sound from the Four Tops (Reach Out and I Can’t Help Myself) and the mainstream pop of the Four Preps (Down By The Station and 26 Miles). The Four Freshmen brought a distinctly jazz flavour to the air waves in the fifties (Love Is Just Around The Corner and Day By Day). The most modern quartet was the Four Seasons with the falsetto voice of Frankie Valli out front releasing numerous top hits through out the sixties and seventies (Working My Way Back To You and Opus 17).
