Months Of The Year

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week we are presenting a theme which links certain moments or emotions to the months of the year. Some months are more popular than others. For example in the Northern Hemisphere, September is a popular month. Three songs use September in their lyrics and titles. Perhaps the most poignant depiction of growing old is captured in the old standard ‘September Song’ sung by Jimmy Durante. Durante’s raspy, ancient voice seems appropriate for the message of the song. Carole King’s popular hit ‘It Might As Well Rain Until September’ links the month to the agony of waiting. Classy singer, Dinah Washington, performs her version of another standard. ‘September In The Rain’.

April is another popular month. Because it’s the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, April songs tend to be joyous and romantic. Pat Boone’s ‘April Love’links the exuberance of new love with the month of April. Bing Crosby sings another old standard ‘April In Portugal’ and our own group, Dragon, remembers an ‘April Sun In Cuba’. Other months recall moments of celebration such as the Four Seasons hit ‘December 1963 (Oh What A Night)’. January (January), May (The First Of May) and June (Rainy Day In June)are other months featured in the program. Summing up the whole year of months is Neil Sedaka’s big song ‘Calendar Girl’.
