Weddings And Funerals

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week we are being unashamedly sentimental and tugging at your heart strings! Songs played at weddings and funerals are often inspiring and uplifting. An interesting observation is that it is sometimes difficult to decide whether the song is for a funeral or a wedding.

There are some obvious wedding songs such as ABBA’s ‘I Do I Do I Do’, Petula Clark’s ‘The Wedding Song’, the Dixie Chick’s hit ‘Going To The Chapel’ and Elvis Presley’s ‘Hawaiian Wedding Song’. Bryan Ferry’s somewhat tongue-in -cheek rendition of ‘Let’s Stick Together’ is more of a humorous wedding song. Sheer inspiration can be found in Debbie Boone’s ‘You Light Up My Life’and the Righteous Brothers soaring version of ‘Unchained Melody’ – a popular wedding song.

Billy Thorpe’s stirring version of the old favourite ‘Over The Rainbow’ always appeals as a song for funerals. But, of course, the most popular funeral song is Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’, written by Paul Anka. It’s always pleasing to play Colleen Hewitt’s big hit ‘ Wind Beneath My Wings’ which could double as a wedding or a funeral song. The same could be said of Dolly Parton’s ‘I Will Always Love You’.
