Hide And Seek

Music

Hi Listeners,

We all have secrets and at times we are all searching for something or someone. Combining those two ideas into one program we come up with the theme of ‘Hide And Seek’. Several songs use the word ‘secret’ in their titles. Jimmie Rodger’s big hit ‘Secretly’ captures the agony of young teenagers too young to speak of their love to anyone else. Doris Day championed the idea of a ‘Secret Love’ prompting a theory that the song was indeed about hidden gay love (not sure if Doris saw it that way!).Telling secrets to others (Do You Want To Know A Secret?) and the damage secrets can do to a relationship (Too Many Secrets) are other ways of viewing the hidden. Similarly, the Beatles ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away’ evokes the theme of forbidden love.

Straight out lying and secretive behaviour is captured in the Eagles impressive ‘Lyin’ Eyes’ with its depiction of a loveless relationship and a secret lover. Other secrets are conveyed in the Partridge Family’s ‘I Think I Love You’, Neil Sedaka’s ‘The Diary’ and Linda Ronstadt’s ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Popular 60s singer Del Shannon captured the obsession of looking for love in ‘Keep Searchin’ while finally, Aussie Russell Morris’s first group Somebody’s Image sum up the theme with their second hit ‘Hide And Seek’.
