Yesterday Once More

9 May 2017

Radiothon 2017

Music

Hi Listeners

It’s Radiothon 2017!  We still need Joy! This week I’ll be joined by two intrepid Joysters: Julia and Lance who will help me navigate our way through the program urging you to become a member of Australia’s only gay radio station: Joy 94.9. Thematically, we’ll spread joy through out the program through our songs and other subtle connections to joy – and love.

Musically, the mood will be uplifting. Love will be spread throughout, with the Beatles leading off with ‘All You Need Is Love’, our own John Paul Young singing the anthemic ‘Love Is In The Air’ and Dionne Warwick’s universal plea ‘What The World Needs Now. ‘Joy’ will permeate many of the song titles too. There will be Apollo 100’s very popular instrumental from the 70s ‘Joy’ and soul singer Marvin Gaye’s ‘Pride And Joy’. Three Dog Night’s ‘Joy To The World’ spreads the message while Julia has dug right into the past to find Peggy Lee’s “Jump For Joy’.

‘How Glad I Am’ (Nancy Wilson) sums up our feelings at being members of Joy 94.9, while Marcia Hines joyous ‘I’ve Got The Music In Me’ echoes our mood. More oblique references can be found in The Seekers ‘Emerald City’ which is derived from Beethoven’s ‘Ode To Joy’ and our own Col Joye And The Joy Boys with their rollicking cover of the Elvis song ‘I Need your Love Tonight’. Yesterday Once More’s outro ‘Southern Aurora’ is always joyful too – played by Australia’s The Joy Boys.
