Today is a special day! It’s our fifth birthday! In this our first podcast we will play all songs from the fifties,sixties and seventies with a connection with the figure ‘5’.

Well here we are – celebrating our fifth anniversary at Joy 94.9. In 2012, while looking at the Joy annual report I noted an absence of music from the fifties, sixties and seventies. It seemed to me that there was a demographic out there we weren’t reaching. Like me, many older LGBTIQ people were avid listeners to the radio in the fifties and sixties when we were teenagers. Many of the great songs from those eras hold precious memories and experiences for us. So Mossy and I decided to apply for a program which featured music from the fifties to the seventies. To our delight it has captured listeners from the demographic we aimed at. But, to our surprise, we also have younger listeners who like the music – often passed on by their parents. We wish to thank you, our listeners, for your support over those five years, for your encouraging comments and to our fellow presenters at Joy who also appreciate our music.
