Preview: Children

Music

Hi Listeners,

This week’s theme is ‘Children’ or ‘Kids’. Back in the sixties the story of a lost four year old boy in the bush in New South Wales was the inspiration for a song by balladeer Johnny Ashcroft called ‘Little Boy Lost’. Likewise John Lennon penned and sang ‘Beautiful Boy’ for his baby son, Sean. The result is a heartfelt and beautiful ballad. Stevie Wonder also penned a song about a real girl in ‘Isn’t She Lovely?’

Two singers with soulful and husky voices were Mary Travers, from Peter Paul and Mary, lead vocalist on the haunting ‘Motherless Child’ and Julie London’s sexy, smooth rendition of ‘Boy On A Dolphin’ from the film of the same name.  Children in general are featured in Billy J Kramer’s ‘Little Children’, Kim Wilde’s ‘Kids In America’ and T Rex’s ‘Children Of The Revolution’. Two interesting songs are Simon And Garfunkel’s ‘Save The Life Of My Child’ from their popular ‘Bookends’ album and the Cyril Stapleton Orchetsra performing ‘The Children’s Marching Song’ replete with a children’s choir. The song is from a film ‘The Inn Of The Sixth Happiness’ starring Ingrid Bergman.

This week we start a new segment. We will feature an Australian song or singer each week. This week’s song is Little Pattie’s unfortunate ‘My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Surfer Boy’.
