This week’s theme Australian Places in Songs covers a number of sites across the continent commencing with Lucky Starr‘s ‘I’ve Been Everywhere’. Most   of the  songs  identify specific places such as Queensland, Torquay, Byron Bay (Goanna‘s Razor’s Edge), Peter Allen‘s ‘Tenterfield Saddler’, Skyhooks’ ‘Toorak Cowboy’, Cold Chisel‘s ‘Bow River’ and the Beach Boys’ inclusion of  Narrabeen (the Sydney surfing beach) in their ‘Surfin USA’ rendition. Other songs rely on the narrative to identify their place of reference, such as Icehouse‘s ‘Great Southern Land’ (Australia), Margaret Roadknight’s ‘Girls in Our Town’ (Newcastle) and The Sports’ ‘Last House on the Left’ (Melbourne’s suburban north).
