Blue

Today’s theme takes a musical look at the word ‘Blue’. What makes ‘blue’ an interesting word is how it has taken on multiple meanings. There’s the colour featured in songs such as Elton John’s Blue Eyes and Linda Ronstadt’s Blue Bayou. But in the American lexicon it has assumed a wider meaning- if you are feeling blue you are feeling down or sad. This meaning is scattered throughout many songs such as Neil Diamond’s Song Sung Blue and Don Gibson’s Blue Blue Day. Teen idol, Bobby Vinton sings a pretty song Blue On Blue penned by Bacharach And David. In Australia ‘blue’ has a totally different connotation wonderfully expressed through John Williamson’s classic True Blue.
